In the beginning of deciding to be an author, you feel exhilarated. You feel that no matter what, you can write and get paid for it. I'm not ashamed to admit to the fact of that is how I was when I started my journey two, nearly three years ago come February. I felt excited that I could share some of the ideas floating down in my mind and get money off of it, but it turned out to be much more complicated.
Yeah, I think that actually writing the book was the easiest part aside from yelling at my characters since they were always doing something other than what I planned. And for those that think an author controls their characters, you're not right and if you still want to believe this, then this might not be the blog for you.
After the writing was done then came the dreaded editing. Oh. My. God. The horror. It's a nightmare, honestly. I think the hardest thing for you to do is to edit our own work, so FIND AN EDITOR! They will be a lifesaver and make things a LOT easier on you. I know it sounds scary to give your book to someone else, but trust me, do research, find someone that works with you and all will be well. There are extremely good and cheap editors and if you need advice on some, feel free to contact me for more information on the ones I know.
After that, cover art and then publishing. Each step I got closer the more excited I got too. Everything was ready and yeah, I was freaking out. I was planning on publishing my first book on March 27th, my 18th birthday (I'm older now, but I won't say how old), but I couldn't wait. I published early and I planned everything out. I had amazing author friends who I had met on my way. They were supportive and even helped me have an amazing book launch.
Hopefully this blog will help you! I'm aiming to give advice, answer questions, and hopefully even provide inspiration. I can't promise to post everyday, but what I can promise is that if you follow this blog, you'll read at least one helpful thing on it!
Now, what in the world are you doing reading this blog post? Get off the internet and go write!
